Fun Fact: I love to travel!! See below some of my adventures!!
During my sophomore spring semester, we traveled to Atlanta, Georgia, for an immersive learning experience. We visited companies like Interface and Shaw, where we explored different flooring options and sustainable practices for future projects. At Cooper Carry, we toured their offices and learned about innovative school design concepts to support our studio project. The trip provided valuable industry insights and strengthened the connection between our coursework and real-world applications.
After my sophomore year, I had the privilege of traveling across Asia and visiting my aunt. Our first stop was Shanghai, where we explored iconic sites such as The Bund, the towering Shanghai Tower, and the serene Yu Yuan Garden. I was captivated by the city's inspiring mix of traditional and modern architecture, reflecting both its deep cultural roots and rapid urban growth. The vibrant blend of cultures and the abundance of greenery throughout the city left a lasting impression, making Shanghai a truly unforgettable experience.
Our next destination was Beijing, China, where we had the unforgettable experience of walking along the Great Wall of China, taking in the breathtaking views from its ancient pathways. Beyond this monumental landmark, we immersed ourselves in the city's rich cultural heritage, exploring historical sites such as the Forbidden City and the Summer Palace. Everywhere we went, we encountered elements of traditional Chinese architecture, art, and customs that reflected centuries of history. Beijing offered a deeper connection to China’s cultural roots, giving us a glimpse into the traditions that continue to shape the country today.
Our last stop in China was Xi'an, where we visited the awe-inspiring Terracotta Warriors, a testament to the craftsmanship and legacy of ancient dynasties. Beyond this archaeological wonder, we explored the city’s fascinating blend of history and modernity, with well-preserved city walls alongside contemporary developments. Xi'an's bustling markets, filled with vibrant local crafts, and its diverse street food scene provided a sensory-rich experience. This city offered a unique window into both the past and present, showcasing how ancient traditions continue to thrive in a modern context.
The final part of my Asia trip was in Vietnam, where I had the meaningful opportunity to visit places where my family grew up. Walking through these areas gave me insight into my roots, helping me connect with the traditions, values, and stories that shaped my family’s history. I experienced the local lifestyle firsthand, from exploring ancestral neighborhoods to enjoying home-cooked meals that carried generations of heritage. This journey deepened my appreciation for my culture and created a stronger sense of identity and belonging.
The most recent trip I went on was to New York City for our junior class field trip. We visited Teknion, where we gained insight into furniture design, and toured the flagship Petco to study its store design and layout. In addition to these educational experiences, we had time to explore the city, enjoying a scenic boat tour that offered stunning views of the skyline. We also took a walk through Central Park, which provided a refreshing contrast to the urban landscape and allowed us to experience more of New York's vibrant atmosphere.
